HR Business Partner

Responsible to: HR Director

Location: Hybrid role with regular travel to garden centres and office

Job Purpose

Partner with managers to deliver HR initiatives aligned with business goals and priorities. Champion people focus centred on the business values. Influence people management, effective recruitment, selection, induction and development.

Key responsibilites

  • Partner with managers to deliver key people related activity and routines, including performance management, talent review, pay review
  • Work within guidelines of people policies and procedures, making recommendations to ensure legal compliance, added value to the business and clear understanding
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with external suppliers e.g., recruitment agencies, training suppliers, employee assistance providers 
  • Contribute to management meetings on a regular basis, representing the people agenda and its impact on other business areas
  • Keep informed of new initiatives and trends in the wider retail sector and HR arena, making recommendations of improvements to implement.

Customer service and support

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with managers, key stakeholders and Woodbridge Office departments
  • Provide advice to managers on people related issues including people management, absence, conduct and restructuring
  • Advise of any relevant legislation or other HR issues that may have an impact on the business or put the business at risk
  • Support and facilitate people related aspects of business developments, acquisitions and disposals, through effective change management

Learning & Development

  • Develop succession and talent plans to build a talent pipeline, improve internal succession and develop talented individuals in collaboration with Retail Operations
  • Facilitate open, honest and challenging talent discussions
  • Coach managers to support their and their teams’ development
  • Identify development needs of managers, inputting into their development plans
  • Design and deliver training activities as required

Employee Engagement

  • Partner with all business areas to deliver regular employee survey
  • Ensure results of employee survey are translated into action plans, implemented, reviewed and a summary communicated to senior managers
  • Proactively champion the Notcutts brand values by ensuring they are evident in all aspects of the employee lifecycle.

Reporting

  • Use people data/KPIs to inform decisions and make recommendations for improvements in key processes eg. recruitment, selection, performance reviews.
  • Actively review people reports to ensure activity matches need 

Person Specification

  • CIPD qualified HR professional with experience of operating in Retail or similar paced organisation and able to demonstrate commercial awareness
  • Experience of advising on a wide range of employee relations issues and processes
  • Multi-site or remote team-working experience, together with a full driving licence and the ability/willingness to travel to different locations as required
  • A working knowledge of talent and development activities 
  • Excellent communication, relationship building and coaching skills
  • Proactive, business partnering, customer focused approach
  • Experience of TUPE is desirable
